Spotify is a digital music service that gives you access to millions of songs. It's funny seeing the current wave of neo-soul stagnating and being uncreative, but D'Angelo is out here totally reinventing himself. This isn't true at all. I have a feeling you don't actually listen to RnB (except the select few this sub always talks about) because I think it's pretty obvious today to anyone who actually frequently listens to. Take that funky ride with D’Angelo & The Vanguard’s all-the-way-live Spotify Sessions. Oh, and if you’ve somehow failed to do so, grab a copy of Black Messiah on iTunes today.
The singer plays 3 songs from ‘Black Messiah’ and an old Prince cover.
D'Angelo recorded a live session for Spotify that's now available for streaming. Few of the singer's legendary performances have been committed to recording, so any opportunity to hear his live work is worth taking. For this set, D'Angelo played three songs from Black Messiah: 'Betray My Heart' (which segues into Voodoo's 'Spanish Joint'), the album's lead single, 'Really Love,' and 'The Door.' He finished it off with a fiery cover of his idol Prince's 'She's Always In My Hair,' which he originally recorded for the Scream 2 soundtrack (released way back in 1997). Listen here.
